Leslie Dockery | Choreographer

LESLIE DOCKERY is a proud member of SDC (Stage Directors and Choreographers Union). She made her Broadway directorial debut with Rollin' on the T.O.B.A. Her directing/choreographing credits include the revival of Don’t Bother Me I Can’t Cope (Tony Award Season/Crossroads Theater), associate choreographer for the original workshops of Broadway's Smokey Joe's Café and the 70’s funk musical, The Funkentine Rapture. She is one of the creators and original choreographer of the Off-Broadway production Beehive. Ms Dockery received Audelco Award “Best Choreography” nominations for Off-Broadway’s Little Ham, From My Hometown and The Shaneequa Chronicles. In 2010, Ms. Dockery’s choreography was featured in Dr. May Edward Chinn and supported Imani’s Audelco Award win for “Best Director.” At the National Black Theatre, Ms. Dockery served as choreographer for Moms starring the late great Clarice Taylor and as director/choreographer for Just A Night Out. Most recently she directed Night Songs at Centenary Stage Company and UGLY IS A HARD PILL at Theater For The New City, for which she won an AUDELCO AWARD for BEST CHOREOGRAPHY. Ms. Dockery recently directed Cole: Revisited: A Tribute to Nat 'King' Cole at the Triad Theatre, which transferred to the RACCA Seaport Salon. She shared a 2010 Bistro Award for Off-Broadway’s Winds of Change for which she served as director.

Regionally, Ms Dockery has directed and choreographed Five Guys Named Moe at the Springer Theater in Columbus Georgia. She served as choreographer for One Mo' Time at the Crossroads Theater, Rochester’s Mercury Opera House’s production of Show Boat and the Florida Bosom Buddies tour starring Carol Woods, Her Pure Gospel Musical franchise which she conceived, directed and choreographed, includes: A Pure Gospel Christmas, A Pure Gospel Valentine and A Pure Gospel America; Pure Gospel shows have toured the East coast and received rave reviews!

Ms. Dockery has also served as choreographer for Harlem Boys & Girls Alumni Choirs Special Events and for the European tours of the Harlem Gospel Singers starring Queen Esther Morrow.

As a performer, Leslie Dockery appeared in the Broadway productions of Eubie!, Sophisticated Ladies, The Tap Dance Kid and Amen Corner. In addition Ms. Dockery worked with Cab Calloway in Bubbling Brown Sugar and starred in her own critically acclaimed one-woman show Barbara's Keys, at the Lambs Theatre.
